Quote
You do not have an identity problem. You have a which version of me just showed up problem.
Identity is not your job title, and it is not today’s mood. It is the version of you that takes the wheel the second something costs you — the parent, the expert, the pleaser, the boss. Most weeks you do not choose that version; an old reflex chooses it for you. This map has one job: help you see the gap between the self who showed up and the self this week needed, then close it with a single deliberate move.
Everything below is identity only — not habit chemistry, not the four-lens overview. If your friction is mood, cues, or follow-through, open Habit (MoC); if you need the whole operating system first, step up one level at the foot.
What people get wrong
- Identity equals mood. Mood turns over by the hour. Identity is the version that stays at the wheel under pressure — that is what you are training.
- Baseline equals identity. High reactivity is temperament to manage — not a verdict on who you are. Name the layer (2 · Layer stack) before the Gap rep.
- The mirror is gossip. Reading how a room reflects you back is signal you can use, not a scoreboard for ranking people.
Read in this order
Short on time? Open 1 · Fast entry only. Layer confusion (baseline vs stance vs character)? Open 2 · Layer stack, then 1.
1 · Fast entry
Open: Identity Gap — name current-self versus needed-self for this week’s Battle. Start here when time is short.
2 · Layer stack
Open: Temperament, attitude and personality — name which layer you are fighting: given · formed · chosen · embodied. Gap reps land on attitude and posture — not baseline reactivity.
3 · Science of self under cost
Open: Identity — what is actually being defended when something costs you.
4 · Values versus behaviour
Open: Identity coherence — when your values and your behaviour quietly disagree.
5 · Roles you try on
Open: Performed identity — the costumes until one stops feeling like a costume.
6 · Strip the performance
Open: Be You, The Real You — before you name the gap.
7 · Choose who runs the week
Open: Be Your Real Boss — on purpose, not by reflex.

Write one line in Manual Of Me: My current-self is ___. My needed-self this week is ___. Then run one behaviour before noon that only the needed-self would run. That single rep — not the journaling — is the identity update.
