Working definition
Deliberate Practice is training on purpose: a named task, on the limit of ability, with feedback tight enough to correct before the week ends — always anchored to this week’s Battle Of the Week and its Tipping point.
How it works
The research frame (Ericsson and others): expertise is not hours logged; it is reps × quality of correction at the edge of current skill. In the Club you operationalise that as one Battle, one lever, many small passes — not a vague intention to “get better.”
Minimum contract for a deliberate rep:
| Element | Question it answers | Failure mode |
|---|---|---|
| Task | What exactly am I doing for two minutes? | ”Work on the business” |
| Edge | Where am I one step past comfortable? | Repetition in the comfort zone |
| Feedback | How do I know the rep succeeded or failed? | No correction until month-end |
| Cadence | When does the rep happen? | One heroic Sunday session |
Distinction from Deliberate Play: Practice is rep quality and correction speed — predictable soreness, serious edge, feedback loop. Play keeps that structure but runs pain and pleasure at the same time on the tipping point inside Zone of maximization. Practice without Play can become white-knuckle discipline; Play without Practice becomes vague “fun.”
Distinction from All Success Lies in Its Preparation: Preparation is upstream of the moment (calendar, checklist, environment). Deliberate Practice is the rep itself — including micro-rehearsal (Three Types of Imagery, lemon ladder) where the correction loop is did the inner movie match what I will actually do?
Room signatures you already use:
- Learning coin = correction — information fills shelves; correction changes behaviour (Learning currency is correction).
- Three short reps beat one long ghost — multiple brief visualisations on one event beat one marathon fantasy (2026-03-02).
- Lemon ladder — real object + timed pings → virtual object → chase evidence until the skill is boring-brilliant (DiSSS Learning, Three Types of Imagery).
- Athlete frame — rehearse steps and felt state for the moment you will act, not abundance-only imagery (2026-03-04).
Stack: Battle Of the Week → Tipping point → Deliberate Practice reps → optional Deliberate Play when you need both cost and meaning on the same rep.
Signature
The image is the lemon in the pocket — pocket → ping → evidence → inner movie ordinary. Yann recurring; Marie-Christine’s toothbrushing pairing on 2026-03-02 keeps deconstruct → select → sequence → stack coupled while life interrupts.

Spatial split — comfort reps (no correction) versus lemon ladder (pocket → ping → evidence → ordinary). Your move: Your move this week.
More room passes mention this doctrine in replay narrative — search the Codex for Deliberate Practice or start from the latest entry on Weekly Sessions.
Your move this week
- From your Battle, write the tipping point in one line.
- Design three deliberate reps (≤5 minutes each) with stated edge and feedback (human, recording, checklist, or flashcard).
- Log one correction you acted on within 24 hours — not the rep you skipped.
