Working definition
The discomfort zone is not somewhere to occasionally visit. The Club’s job is to make it the new norm.
How it works
The classic comfort-zone diagram says: comfort → discomfort → burnout. The mainstream message is step out of comfort to grow. Yann’s doctrine pushes further: the new norm should sit inside the discomfort zone, just shy of the burnout edge.
The mechanism is deliberate dosing. Discomfort without pleasure burns you out. Discomfort with pleasure — Deliberate Play — recalibrates the nervous system so that what used to feel like exposure becomes baseline. This is where the work of Mithridatisation lands: progressive doses of adversity until the previous norm feels like under-living.

The image is the bodybuilder at the gym — Yann recurring: the athlete who grimaces is not suffering without meaning; he suffers proportionally to the meaning he assigns. Same exertion, different lived experience — the zone where you pays willingly because the meaning is clear — 2026-03-30.
More room passes mention this doctrine in replay narrative — search the Codex for Zone of maximization or start from the latest entry on Weekly Sessions.

Same exertion — meaning proportional to lived experience; maximization band as new norm, shy of burnout. Deliberate Play dosing stays in prose. Your move: Your move this week.
Your move this week
This week’s micro-action (24–72 hours):
- Audit your week.
- Identify three moments where you defaulted to comfort.
- For each, design the version where you would have stayed in maximization without crossing into burnout.
- Don’t act yet — see the version of yourself who would have.
- The seeing is the first move.
