Working definition
Alter Ego is a voluntarily customised other ego — a brassard or plugin you install on identity for a context — not the finished future self.
How it works
Your ego is the identity and storytelling you already run. Alter means other — a version you customise when you need it, on the path toward a future self. You arm yourself with tools; the Alter Ego is the accessory: the leather brassard that authorises force in that arena (like installing a plugin on identity).
Traits are the payload: which character trait do you allow yourself to express on Monday that your current ego withholds? Mentors are libraries of traits and competences — pick design mentors when the week needs design force; stack or compose what you borrow. You may run one Alter Ego or several; the key is conscious action on what you are made of so behaviour changes. Identity is construction and Conditioning — you can deconstruct and rebuild. Raising certainty that you may act on identity turns congruence with the identity you author into an evidence, not a hope (Permission withheld · Transfer of Certainty).
Distinction from future self: future self is the destination identity; Alter Ego is the tool for this context. Distinction from The Power of the Alter Ego: Atlas holds the external frame and Todd Herman spine; this note is Club install — brassard · plugin · authorise the trait.

The image is the brassard — one accessory, one authorised force. Room: 2026-08-14 — Alter Ego is not who you want to become; it is what you put on to act.

Spatial split — Future self (destination · become later) versus Alter Ego (brassard · wear now). Routes: Permission · Certainty. Your move: Your move this week.
The WOW: Install the plugin — then move.
Your move this week
- Name one trait your current ego still withholds in the arena that matters.
- Choose a brassard cue (object · phrase · posture) that turns that trait on.
- Run the cue once before the next live — log what behaviour changed.
