The body is not behind the mind. It is running first — and the story arrives late.
Most weeks you treat behaviour as a character verdict: lazy, avoidant, not disciplined enough. Biology asks a quieter question: what state is the nervous system in, and can you read the signal before the behaviour fires? Stress load, autonomic tone, interoceptive blur, and sleep debt gate cognition long before willpower gets a vote.
This map is body and stress physiology only — not habit loops, not identity narrative, not rep design. If the block is I never start the cue, open Habit (MoC); if it is the wrong self grabbed the wheel, open Identity (MoC); if you cannot name the friction yet, step up one level at the foot.
What people get wrong
- Mind over body hierarchy. You moralize collapse instead of asking whether threat, sleep, or flood primed today’s act.
- Generic calm labels. Borrowed mindfulness words hide the signal — granular vocabulary comes first.
- Cognitive fix on a flooded system. Planning and argument land after somatic safety, not instead of it.

1 · Fast entry
Open: Interoception — sensation → interpretation → thought → emotion → action, caught early. Start here when time is short.
2 · One nervous-system stack
Open: Nervous system — central, peripheral, autonomic — mood as readout, not a separate realm.
3 · Safety versus threat tone
Open: Polyvagal Tone — vigilance versus accessible safety before connection or performance.
4 · Chronic stress spine
Open: Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers — HPA load and why your biology is not the zebra’s.

Signal: Granular Interoception — name the signal at your body’s resolution.
State: Body chemistry — felt state as recipe output, not moral identity.
Exposure: Mithridatisation — titrated reps when avoidance keeps the alarm high.
Presence: Being vs doing — stay with sensation before strategic doing.

Your move
After your next charged moment, log one body signal (gut, breath, heat, numbness) before you write the story about what it means. One line in your capture practice — signal first, verdict second.
