Working definition

Dual calm dials means you score body calm and mind calm separately — a relaxed body with a mind at 250 is not “calm”; it is decorrelation that needs different tools.

How it works

A single “am I calm?” score collapses two channels. Soft shoulders and a quiet jaw can coexist with a mind already scanning the day. Rumination and fascia need different moves; matching the tool to the wrong dial wastes the rep.

  1. Name the dials — body (somatic quiet) vs mind (thought flood / anticipation).
  2. Score both on the same cue (wake, hourly ping, mid-day).
  3. Choose the tool for the worse dial — breath / fascia for body; attention return / meaning reframe for mind.
  4. Raise granularity so “stressed” splits into which thoughts and what meaning.

Distinction from Serenity scale: Serenity scale is levels of one competence; dual dials are two parallel meters that can disagree. Distinction from Interoception: interoception is sensing; dual dials are the scoring split that makes sensing actionable.

Signature

Room: body completely calm in the morning — mind already at 250. Orchestra without a conductor = noise; Be Your Real Boss is learning to orchestrate the channels, not erase them.

Spatial split — One score (false merge · wrong tool risk) versus Two dials (body + mind · match the worse). Your move: Your move this week.

Your move this week

Score body calm 1–10 and mind calm 1–10 at least once on waking — two numbers, not one — then run one tool for the lower dial.

Scientific grounding

Cite

Body calm tracks interoceptive channels; mind calm tracks appraisal and attention — scoring one number collapses two dissociable reads (Craig; Garfinkel et al. accuracy vs awareness).
