Working definition

Conatus is the inner movement that wants to exist more fully: the part of you that knows what wants to be expressed before the social self permits it.

How it works

In the Club, Conatus names the pressure from the inside: the pull toward the life, voice, business, leadership, or identity that you senses but does not yet allow.

The conflict appears when the current self-image blocks that movement. You want to express something, but the fear of being seen, judged, rejected, or misread makes the expression feel dangerous. The Battle is often the place where Conatus meets the old identity.
