Working definition

Be Your Own Limits is the B3 axis of the 3B Method: the daily practice of choosing one’s own boundary and one’s own challenge level, training pleasure-with-pain rather than pleasure-or-pain.

How it works

You often operate under inherited limits — limits set by family, employer, peers, fatigue, default routines. The B3 practice is the daily replacement of inherited limits with self-imposed limits.

Self-imposed limits are not absences of limit. They are deliberately chosen friction. The bodybuilder picks the weight. The runner picks the distance. The solopreneur picks the daily-hours commitment. You pick the Battle. The discipline is the choice of friction, not the avoidance of it.

The central B3 insight: pleasure and pain are not exclusive — they are the same act, viewed twice. The gym practitioner pushing the heavy set looks contorted and red, and deeply satisfied, because the meaning is large enough to contain the pain. The work of B3 is installing enough pleasure alongside the pain that the loop becomes self-sustaining.

The bike + homeostasis principle: equilibrium is perpetual disequilibrium. The only way to stay balanced on a bike is to keep correcting. B3 trains the corrector.

Adjacent: Battle Of the Week (the operational vehicle of B3), Player (the role you play inside B3), Deliberate Practice (the long-arc skill loop), Deliberate Play (pain and pleasure together on the tipping point in Zone of maximization), Be Your Real Boss (the authority B3 borrows from).

Spatial split — inherited limits (imposed on you) versus self-chosen friction (pain with pleasure on the same rep). Bike disequilibrium stays in prose. Your move: Your move this week.

Your move this week

This week’s micro-action (24–72 hours):

  1. Name one limit currently imposed on you by something other than your own choice. The job hours. The family schedule. The phone notifications. The default workout.
  2. Replace it with a self-chosen version. Specific. Dated. With a clear pain and a clear pleasure named upfront.
  3. Step over it once this week, deliberately, with both pleasure and pain present.
  4. Log the moment in your personal notes as a victory signal.
