A CRM is the system of record for who you are talking to, where they sit in the path, and what follow-up is owed — prep state that makes relational outreach executable.
Origin
Customer relationship management tools and practices grew to stop pipeline knowledge living only in memory. In coaching businesses the same failure mode appears: outreach friction spikes when contact state is foggy before you enter relational mode.
Mechanism
Evidence level: established practice (sales ops CRM) paired with goal-systems / habit research — not a software recommendation.
