Working definition

You treat the live room like a showroom — you must arrive with something polished to work on — and that pressure shrinks attendance before anyone speaks.

How it works

The showroom effect is performance shame applied to a coaching room: you imagine others arrive with a finished problem, so you wait until yours looks presentable. Heat, fear, and a thin Monday roster are often the same mechanism — not lack of interest.

Yann names the Club open-door: sparse attendance is still data. The rep is not to perform insight on entry but to bring honest friction — half-formed words, vocabulary wars, missing definitions. Battle Of the Week fails when the handle repels you before you declare anything; Choosing the problem you want restores craft over martyrdom.

Pair with linguistic resonance when the repelling word is battle or another inherited handle.

Failure modes

  • Showroom before the room — polishing in private until the live session window closes.
  • Sparse-room shame — reading low attendance as proof the Club failed you, not as open-door data.
  • Handle fixation — renaming battle without testing whether the underlying rep fits.

The image is the same door — showroom says polish before entry; open-door says honest friction is the material — Yann on 2026-07-06.

Branka on 2026-07-06 alone on a slow Monday: fear plus the sense you need something polished before the room deserves you — Yann receives the sparse room as feature, not insult, and still asks whether he gives enough reason to show up.

Spatial split — showroom (hide until ready) versus open door (messy friction · sparse = data). Your move: Your move this week.

Your move this week

  1. Name one sentence — I am treating this room like a showroom when…
  2. Attend or voice-note one half-formed friction without polishing it first.
  3. If the word battle (or another handle) triggers the showroom, test a rename for one week — keep the rep, swap the label.
