Working definition
Busy versus truly productive names the gap between motion that flatters and motion that moves your declared aim — long lists, constant activity, and looking productive while the lever waits.
How it works
Confusing the two keeps you safe from the uncomfortable move. Efficiency vs effectivity adds energy cost; this doctrine adds aim honesty — did the block serve the need or only the feeling of work?
Pair with Redefine productivity when the old picture equates speed with worth, and with Flight strategies when busywork is avoidance wearing a badge.
Failure modes
- Tagging without a need — labelling blocks busy/productive against no Q3 lever; the exercise becomes theatre.
- Only counting hours — motion time mistaken for aim progress.
- Starving the uncomfortable move — long lists of small wins while the independence or Battle rep waits (Independence lever).
Signature
The image is aim honesty — a long busy list versus one starred block that actually moved the quarter need.
