Definition
The ideal schedule machine is the living scaffold — not a fantasy calendar — that negotiates ideal structure against daily capacity with explicit cadres and finish lines.
Origin
Goal-intention research shows vague striving underperforms cue-linked plans. Gollwitzer’s implementation intentions — if situation X, then action Y — automate when-where-how without fresh deliberation each morning. Ideal-week design avoids cloning one perfect day seven times — different day-types carry different cadres and finish lines.
Mechanism
The machine runs when three layers are explicit:
- Objective — which block owns the rep (not the pleasant wrong task).
- Cadre — start, stop, deliverable (e.g. five-minute audio).
- Instrument — lightness or coherence logged at your cadence.
Without finish criteria, the machine becomes infinite pleasant focus — busy, unvalidated, frustrating. If-then links bind the cadre to a cue (calendar block opens → record starts) so the schedule is executable, not aspirational wallpaper.

Failure modes
- Fantasy calendar — seven identical ideal days with no day-type variance or capacity check.
- Intention without if-then — goals on paper but no cue-linked start/stop — deliberation reopens every morning.
- Missing finish line — open-ended blocks that feel productive but never ship a deliverable.
