Definition
Probabilism (operator sense) is accepting variance on the path — exploration, surprise, non-guaranteed trials — while keeping critical result-links deterministic.
Origin
Operators who love surprise often inject it into the wrong link and call it freedom. Probabilism names a legitimate need for uncertainty and parks it where cascade failure is cheap.
Mechanism
Variety and exploration refresh motivation and discovery. On a SPOF link, the same variety collapses the chain. Pair with goal-system maps: means that serve multiple goals tolerate more variance; means that alone carry the outcome do not (Kruglanski et al., 2002).
