Working definition
The word you put on a need is the first domino: it sets off the chain word → thought → emotion → behaviour → action → result — so changing the word changes everything downstream.
How it works
A need does not arrive with a label; you give it one. And the label is not cosmetic — it is the first link in a chain that runs:
word → thought → emotion → behaviour → action → result.
Name the 14h signal a need and the thought is I have to eat, the emotion is mild alarm, the behaviour is to seek food, the action follows, and the result is a broken fast. Name the same signal a sensation and the thought is this will pass, the emotion settles, and the result is the standard held (see Interoception). Same body, different first word, opposite result.
This is why clarity is power and why excellence hides in the nuances: a vague or borrowed word pre-loads a vague or borrowed life. You underestimate how much the quality of your words decides the quality of your life, because the chain runs so fast it feels like the situation caused the result — when the word did.

Catch one need you have been naming badly — I need to be reliable, I need a break, I need them to understand — and re-word it precisely. Then write the thought, emotion, and action the new word produces, and act on that one.
