Working definition
Perception of pain — Progress needs discomfort; the skill is playing with how you perceive the pain during the rep — not waiting for painless growth.
How it works
No pain, no progression — but raw suffering is not the skill. Perception of pain is learning to stay in the rep while the body shouts stop, and to reframe what the discomfort means.
It sits beside Choosing the right discomfort (which pain belongs to your future self) and Player (deliberate play with adversity). Gym minutes past the old ceiling are the metaphor: what felt like 100% was 40%.

- In your next hard rep, stay two minutes past the urge to stop — then log what the pain was actually signalling.

Club “pain” here maps to effort perception in the psychobiological model — stop rules are partly appraised, then trainable — not a clinical pain claim.
