Definition

Perceptivity is sieve fineness — how finely you discriminate signal from noise in body, behaviour, and craft before you interpret.

Origin

Coaching and expertise traditions treat perception as trainable resolution: coarser sieves catch only pebbles; finer sieves catch flour. Interoception research maps the afferent side — how precisely the nervous system represents body state (Craig, 2002).

Mechanism

Discrimination precedes useful prediction. If you cannot tell hunger from anxiety, or hesitation from fatigue, feedback stays blunt. Raising perceptivity is raising granularity of the raw signal so the matrix has something named to filter.

Applications

  • Self-coaching: label body vs thought before changing the plan.
  • Skill: notice micro-errors in the act, not only after the session.
  • Leadership: hear what was said vs what was meant.
