Definition
Fortitude is ease with resistance you chose — staying in the rep until the learning window closes, while still releasing when the move is misaligned, not merely uncomfortable.
Origin
Stoic fortitudo (endurance with judgment) parallels modern exposure and distress-tolerance frames: repeated bounded contact with stressors can widen capacity without glorifying harm.
Mechanism
Cold shower, deliberate adversity, relational hold, and treadmill plus all train fortitude when discomfort is chosen and bounded. Distinguish necessary resistance (skill forming) from misaligned resistance (wrong commitment). Pair Inside Feedback — capture inner stop signals before obeying them.
Distress tolerance is trainable in bounded protocols; DBT-derived skills target staying with affect without impulsive escape — distinct from glorifying unbounded stress.

Misaligned stop versus necessary resistance — one bounded rep, window closes, then log. Pair Inside Feedback · Cold shower.
Applications
Stack small daily proofs (cold shower, pizza-call, post-before-deadline) so The Victory Journal installs certainty. Do not run fortitude in every life domain at once — saturate breaks the circuit.
