Definition
Exteroception is the mind’s pickup of outer-world signal — sights, sounds, timers, subtitles, crowd noise — as distinct from inner body state.
Mechanism
Friction hacks often switch exteroceptive focus (English subtitles on the treadmill, look out the window on the last rep) to stop the inner suffering countdown. Interoception reads inside; exteroception reads outside — Signal vs Noise sorts which channel deserves the rep.
Executive attention networks select among sensory and memorial inputs for awareness; outer-field hacks work by reallocating that selection, not by erasing inner signal.

Inner countdown versus outer switch — subtitles, window, count bias keep the rep alive. Pair with Inside Feedback: capture first, then redirect.
Applications
When post or publish resistance fires, ask: is friction inner (skill gap) or outer (clock, perfectionism on the feed)? Customise the switch — not every hack transfers from gym to camera.
