Abstract
Social identity is membership as well as personal story: once a category is valued, people compare, differentiate, and stay coherent with we are this — even when the box is temporary architecture.

Key findings
- Category as self — Intergroup behaviour follows from categorisation and a valued social identity, not only from personal taste.
- Coherence pressure — The self works to remain a good instance of the group it already wears.
Application
When you hear we are X doing more work than the day’s behaviour, ask whether the collective box is holding unfinished work or freezing it. Pair Identity scaffolding.
