Abstract
Multidimensional poverty is identified with two cutoffs: deprivation inside a domain, then enough deprived domains to count the person. The same counting logic was later adapted to sufficiency indices such as Bhutan’s GNH.

Key findings
- Two cutoffs — Domain deprivation and a cross-domain count, not a single blended score pretending to be the life.
- What gets counted — An official index conditions attention; the method does not prove the number produces the life.
Application
When you install a well-being KPI, ask what identity the count now requires people to wear. Pair Gross National Happiness.
