Success strategy is what emerges when effort meets competence already built — the second multiplication in Duckworth’s chain: effort × competence → success strategy.
Mechanism
Sequence: name Talent → effort → competence → second effort pass → strategy that actually wins in the field. Skipping the talent-definition step produces polished competence in the wrong arena.
Hierarchical goal models separate momentary self-control from decade-scale grit; skipping the talent-definition step is a common coaching failure mode, not a finding of the grit literature itself.
